It was an absolutely amazing event. It seems incredible to believe that 15 years after his death, Tupac Shakur rose to life again to perform at Coachella. I’m sure the loyal Tupac fanatics actually for a moment thought this was proof of his afterlife existence. Performing alongside Snoop Dogg, his presence was seen and felt by all, and then reality set in as Pac seemed to vanish in to thin air; his body evaporating into thin mist Don’t worry if you missed it; he’ll definitely be back.
Tupac Shakur Live on World Tour!?! The impossible may now be possible thanks to an innovative technological trick that created the lifelike virtual image of Tupac Shakur, who appeared performing on stage on stage with Snoop Dogg at the Coachella Valley and Arts Festival. The late icon’s likeness was a spectacular close to the first weekend of this annual festival. It’s a strong possibility that other holograms may make appearances during next weekends activities.
Tupac’s image is actually a projected digital 2D image whose design is inspired by an old 19th century mirror trick called “Peppers Ghost” created by John Pepper. Dr. Dre along with AV Concepts worked to develop this complicated technology that astounded the Coachella audience. Its estimated that the project to develop this amazing high tech trick of light cost more than $100,000 and possibly up to $400,000. It appears that Dr. Dre has a massive vision for the future possibilities of use for this technology…like a possible tour featuring Tupac.
Sunday’s finale featured a superstar hip hop extravaganza with performances by both Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre as well as other artists. The show’s climax was surely Tupac’s surprise appearance which featured Snoop performing live with Tupac’s hologram. 50 cent, Eminem, and other music celebrities also were on hand for the festivities. Promoters attended by invitation to discuss the possiblities of Dre’s ideas for creating a tour of the best hip-hop artists to perform alongside Tupac’s hologram.
Common commented on his thoughts of the new technology in an interview. He expressed his appreciation for keeping great music and great artists memory alive. When asked what other great musicians he would like to see brought back as a hologram and possibly perform with. He said definitely Bob Marley or John Lennon. This new technology definitely brings to life a whole new frontier of music and entertainment. We cant wait to see what will come next. And if the Tupac tour actually comes to my hometown…I’ll be first in line for a front row ticket.
